Palayan City Founding Anniversary is celebrated in the city of Palayan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines every December 5. The date may be declared a special nonworking holiday in the city by virtue of executive issuance such as Proclamation No. 1235 in 2021.
History of Palayan City
Palayan City began as landlocked habitat for indigenous tribes of Aetas, Dumagats, Kankanaeys, and Kalanguyans. As the province of Nueva Ecija was organized, it then belonged to the jurisdiction of Bongabon and became a government-owned property under the Bureau of Animal Industry as a farm for animal development.
On June 19, 1965, it was transformed into not only a city but also the capital of Nueva Ecija pursuant to Republic Act No. 4475, otherwise known as “An Act Establishing the New Capital of the Province of Nueva Ecija, Creating the City of Palayan, Providing a Charter Therefor, and for other Purposes.”
Its territory included the villages that used to be part of the nearby towns of Bongabon, Ganaderia, Laur, and Malate.
President Diosdado Macapagal afterwards issued Proclamation No. 495, as stated by the RA 4475, that fixed the date of the formal organization of the city on the fifth of December, 1965. This is the date of the annual founding anniversary of the city.
A largely agricultural urban site, its agricultural output includes crops such as corn, rice, onion, and calamansi. It is also known as the location of the biggest military reservation in the Philippines, Fort Magsaysay, which was created through Presidential Proclamation No. 237 that was issued by President Ramon Magsaysay on December 19, 1995.
