Unod Festival

Unod Festival is a cultural and agricultural festival in the municipality of Castilla, Sorsogon, Philippines every October 1 to 7. It is a celebration of thanksgiving, of bountiful harvest of root crops from the farms, and of the invaluable work of farmers.

What is Unod Festival?

The word unod pertains to root crops.

Unod Festival gives an ode to Castilla as a largely agricultural town in the province of Sorsogon, the richness of its fertile lands, and the fruits of labor of its many farm workers. It is mounted to encourage the promotion of local products.

Farming is one of the main livelihoods of townsfolk, and the local government highlights how it is a source of gainful employment to fight poverty.

The fest focuses the spotlight on farm produce especially the various root crops such as cassava, camote (sweet potato), gabi (taro), and uraro (arrowroot).

One of the cherished traditions is the tinagba. Farm produced are presented and a priest blesses them. The farmer chooses the best of their kind to be given as offering.

Castilla is also considered a “fruit basket”, producing numerous fruits such as melon, atis (custard apple), guava, santol (cottonfruit), and pineapple. Additionally, it is a fishing community.

Unod Festival Activities

Unod Festival events include the Agro Trade Fair that showcases the best farm produce of Castilla. It also offers an exhibit of the many products that are derived from them.

Other activities include motorcade, competitions, street dancing, float parade, talent contests, civic military parade, and thanksgiving mass.

How to reach Castilla, Sorsogon

The nearest airport is Legazpi Airport, and the city is about 60 kilometers away in a land trip that would take roughly one and a half hour.
