Aurora Festival

Aurora Festival is a religious fiesta in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, Philippines in August 31.

The city also observes Tanjay City Charter Anniversary every April 1. It also celebrates the Sinulog sa Tanjay Festival every July 25 and Tanjay City Children’s Festival every January.

History of Aurora Festival

Aurora Festival began as an expression of devotion to San Roque (St. Roch of Montpellier), the patron saint of the sick. Its activities are organized by forty religious clans who are devotees of the saint in the city.

Novena prayers are offered in the evenings. Religious services culminate in a solemn procession along Tanjay River.

Devotees are on board water vessels and bear the image of the patron. Others also witness by the banks of the river and on the bridges.

Aurora Festival was conducted during the time of Mayor Arturo S. Regalado. After a hiatus due to coronavirus pandemic, it was held again starting in 2021.

How to reach Tanjay City, Negros Oriental

Tanjay City can be reached via Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport or sea port and a land travel by buses.
