Diyandi Festival is the cultural and religious festival in the town of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, Philippines every third Monday of January. It is organized in honor of Sto. Niño.
It is also called Balingasag’s Sinulog festivity.
The word diyandi means celebration. The Diyandi Festival is a way for the people of Balingasag to express their gratitude and faith to the Holy Child. Such devotion is inspired Cebu’s Sto. Niño and its yearly celebration, the Sinulog Festival. In the process, it has been attributed to the increase of tourism visits to the town.
Within the calendar of the Diyandi Festival is the Pasalamat Festival, the dance competition that is participated by different schools of the town. Another is the Sakay Sakay, which showcases thanksgiving by devotees for the blessings received from the Child Jesus.
Its schedule includes the nine-day novena and daily mass. A pontifical mass is held on the tenth day. The feast day occurs the day after where there will be the culminating activities and main highlight of the affair such as fluvial parade. Other activities include variety shows, cultural presentations, parade, beauty pageant called Miss Balingasag, fireworks display, talent competitions, etc.
How to reach Balingasag, Misamis Oriental? One can travel to Laugindingan Airport and then take the bus to Balingasag, whic is over 80 kilometers away in a trip that would take about three hours. Buses are also available for people looking for land-based travel.
