Himorasak Festival, also spelled Himurasak Festival, is a harvest and rice festival in the town of Matag-ob in the province of Leyte, Philippines every September 25. It is a month-long celebration that coincides with the harvest season of rice.
History of Himurasak Festival
The first ever Himurasak Festival was organized in September 2022 within the term of Mayor Bernandino G. Tacoy. Its name comes from the word himurasak, a word in Waray language that means abundance.
The fest is dedicated as a thanksgiving for plentiful harvest of rice, to showcase the talents and creativity of the people of Matag-ob, to highlight agricultural products and work of farmers, and to boost to the town’s tourism.
Aside from rice production, Matag-ob also produces a variety of produce and coconut.
Himorasak Festival Activities
Activities of the Himorasak Festival include parade, talent contests, art, workshops, sports, fun run, cookfest, eating contest called Habhab and Samoal Contest, and races. Culminating events include grand parade, float, and dance competition in the last day of the event. The fest calendar started in September 3.
Habhab sa Matag-ob Food Park
Habhab sa Matag-ob (Food fest in Matag-ob) Food Park is a space for foodies to sample the delectable local dishes of the town. It boasts of stalls selling various products and food items.
Binibining Himorasak Festival Queen
Binibining Himorasak Festival Queen is a beauty contest where candidates are representatives of component villages grouped into clusters.
How to reach Matag-ob, Leyte
Matag-ob can be reached through air, land, and sea. One can book a ferry ride to different western seaports of the province or a flight to Tacloban Airport. Buses ply the route for land-based travel. From the airport, the trip is going to be about 100 kilometers and would take over two hours.
